GRE & GMAT Quadratics Webinar: July 22, 2020
MyGuru's Director of Online Tutoring introduces & demonstrates how to solve quadratic equations on the GRE & GMAT.
GMAT & GRE Quadratics Defined
- Assume these questions can be addressed by factoring or 'FOILing' (distributing) to solve
- The quadratic equation should not be necessary (too time consuming)
- FOIL = First, Outside, Inside, Last
Steps for GRE & GMAT Quadratic Factoring
- Every quadratic has to be set equal to zero in order to solve
- Create binomial parentheses with the first term inserted
- Consider the required operations in binomials using constant by determining if it's lesser or greater than zero
- Consider factors of constant to determine which will sum correctly to coefficient of middle term
- Remember that the solutions (also known as the roots) of the equation are the values of x that produce a quantity of zero
A few things to remember as MyGuru's Director of Online Tutoring takes attendees through questions found on Official GRE & GMAT practice exams:
- Plugging in is so much faster than trying to use the quadratic equation
- Common quadratic identities (memorize this rather than the quadratic equation)
- The quadratic formula (only for informational purposes)
