Lisa Alvarado, Managing Tutor & Operations Director
Lisa Alvarado holds a Bachelors degree in History from the University of Texas at Austin and a Masters Degree in History with a focus on the historic studies of race, ethnicity and gender from Purdue University. During her time at Purdue, Lisa tutored student athletes. Working to move beyond academic coursework, she taught her students valuable professional development and life skills.
Lisa’s dedication to education and youth reach beyond her own studies and extensive experience within academics. During her 7 year tenure on the Leadership Board of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metropolitan Chicago, she raised funds to support the mentoring of children from underserved communities. Through her work with Bright Pink, funded by a Susan G. Komen for the Cure Grant, Lisa utilized her professional writing skills to compose “Diversity Guides,” breast and ovarian health educational materials especially for African Americans, Latina & LGBQ women.
Lisa manages MyGuru's team of tutors across all locations.
Lisa’s passions include philanthropy, cooking and traveling with her husband, Pablo and their daughter Camille, interior design and playing with their dog Tex.
